The MSU College of Human Medicine offers a fully online master's in public health degree program through the Program in Public Health. This is the only fully online master's in public health degree available in the state as well as the only program offered by a medical school.

The online program offers a variety of dual degrees that can be pursued concurrently with your master's in public health, in addition to graduate certificates, which require only four to six classes to complete and can be done entirely online. Some of the specialized certificates available at MSU are unique, including one in counterfeit pharmaceuticals and public health. Notably, the school also offers a core discipline certificate that may be earned outside the formal master's degree program. The credits for the certificate are transferrable, so if you are unsure about pursuing a master's in public health or only need to learn fundamental public health principles in order to further your career, this professional certificate may be a good option for you.

Old Dominion University has an extensive online learning program and, in partnership with Eastern Virginia Medical School, the University's School of Community and Environmental Health offers a master's degree in public health with a concentration in either environmental health or health promotion and safety.

The master's in public health program utilizes multiple online learning modalities. Their two-way extended campus technology allows students to attend a live broadcast at a specific site, permitting face-to-face discussion between students and teachers. These courses may be held at one of ten locations across Virginia. Online classes are also available in a streaming format, and may be either live or broadcast. Students can also choose asynchronous courses, meaning there is no set class and you can complete the coursework at a time most convenient to you. However, assignments and exams are on a schedule, so it's still important that you stay on track with your coursework. You may attend the program as either a full-time or part-time student but tuition is high, at around $800 per credit hour.
